EFFECTIVENESS OF MODIFIED SACROILIAC BELT ON PELVIC GIRDLE PAIN IN POST NATAL WOMEN
Abstract
Introduction: Pregnancy induced pelvic girdle pain (PGP) and low back pain (LBP) is common in post-natal women’s. Pain aggravates while standing, sitting walking and other daily activities. Treatment requires immediate and post-natal attention during puerperium. Existing post-natal belts are found inefficient in providing reasonable support to lumbar spine and pelvic obliquity which leads to less stability. A new belt was designed and compared with existing belt for post-natal women’s.
Methodology: post-natal women’s were divided in two groups. Group A received existing postnatal belts while Group B was given newly designed post-natal belt with outcome measures Pelvic girdle pain questionnaire, Rowland Morris pain questionnaire for low back pain. While quantitative outcome measures were X-ray for sacral inclination angle and lordosis measurement by flexi curve ruler.
Results: There was significant pain reduction in low back pain, pelvic girdle pain and lordosis in group B but not any significant difference in X-Ray in sacral inclination angle. Group A showed no significant difference in quantitative outcome measures.
Conclusion: Level of pelvic belt on spine plays a vital role in pain reduction in pelvic girdle pain and low back pain. Group B with modified pelvic belt was effective for post natal womens.
