Presentation Title:

The Role of Androgen Receptor in Ovarian Cancer Stemness and Chemoresistance

Abstract

Ovarian cancer's high mortality rate is partly attributed to cancer stem cells (CSCs) and chemoresistance. The androgen receptor (AR) regulates ovarian cancer stemness, promoting self-renewal, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and stemness gene expression. AR expression correlates with chemotherapy resistance by activating anti-apoptotic pathways and regulating drug efflux transporters. Targeting AR through inhibitors or RNA interference, combination therapies, and investigating AR-mediated pathways offer promising translational research directions. Potential biomarkers include AR expression levels, AR gene mutations/variants, and CSC-specific markers. AR regulates ovarian CSCs, promoting stemness and chemoresistance, and its signaling enhances EMT, stemness gene expression, and anti-apoptotic pathways. Moreover, AR expression correlates with chemotherapy resistance, and targeting AR offers therapeutic potential. Biomarkers, such as AR expression levels and CSC-specific markers, may improve treatment strategies. This research highlights the critical role of AR in ovarian cancer stemness and chemoresistance, revealing potential therapeutic targets and biomarkers for improved treatment outcomes. Understanding AR's role may lead to novel therapeutic strategies, enhancing treatment efficacy and patient survival rates.
