Study on the rehabilitation of postpartum women with chronic pelvic pain
Abstract
The study aims to describe the presence or absence of changes in the perception of symptoms relating to chronic pelvic pain after childbirth in a sample of pregnant women affected by CPPs who underwent pelvic-perineal re-educational treatment during pregnancy. A case series was conducted on women recruited at two pelvic-perineal rehabilitation centers in Emilia Romagna. The results showed that, approximately one month after giving birth, pelvic pain was rated as improved (average values of 5/10 on the VAS) by 4 out of the 5 women examined. The VAS scale appears to be an excellent evaluation tool and if associated with perineal testing it can reveal whether the painful symptom causes or is associated with perineal muscle dysfunction.
